See: World’s best homes – step inside the globe’s most impressive houses Earlier this year, the team behind The Modern House (opens in new tab) announced they were launching a new estate agency called Inigo, which would champion marvellous character-rich homes. As one of the first listings, Hunston Manor House doesn’t disappoint. It boasts its own double moat and an array of outbuildings, sprawling gardens, a swimming pool and a tennis court. The historic home is thought to have been built in the 1670s, and boasts 5,700 sq ft of space internally. It has seven bedrooms and a number of formal and informal rooms for relaxing and entertaining. The site now home to Hunston Manor House has hosted a dwelling since the mid-Saxon period, so is veritably doused in history. Records show that it belonged to the Earl of Arundel in 1518, who was one of the only English noblemen to have held a position in the court of all the later Tudor monarchs (Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I and Elizabeth I).

It was bought by the current owners in the 1990s, who undertook an incredible restoration, breathing life back into an almost derelict building and revealing architectural features that had been hidden over hundreds of years. As the heart of the home, the kitchen lives up to expectation, boasting a rustic olde worlde beam frame that creates a statement piece in the room. Traditional wooden floors and heritage blue cabinets create a modern cottagecore aesthetic. And there’s also a relaxing, cosy lounge area in the kitchen where friends and family can happily chat to the chef of the day.
