Pittsburgh-based paint manufacturers PPG has announced their 2022 Color of the Year is Olive Sprig – a grounded and refreshingly versatile grey-green hue – that ‘represents regrowth in a post-pandemic world.’  With the combination of these trendy tones set to be big news in the year ahead, one thing remains certain: their enduring power shows no signs of wavering.  With a muted yet organic aesthetic, this shade is expected to shape paint trends over the coming seasons, but what makes Olive Sprig (opens in new tab) so particularly noteworthy? This is everything we know about this fresh hue – so you can get ahead of the craze. The shade – which emulates the feeling of soothing aloe vera – can illuminate a space with verdant liveliness and chic gray undertones.  ‘As many of us know, following a year of lockdown, the easiest way to shift your mindset is to change your environment… Our paint color preferences are shifting too, in both residential and commercial spaces,’ explains PPG’s senior color marketing manager, Amy Donato. ‘DIYers, property managers, designers, and architects are shifting away from the stark, neutral palettes of yesterday and opting for color in all forms. Call it rebellion, but we are certainly here for the resurgence of optimistic colors to guide us into a new era of home design,’ she adds.  When planning green room ideas, PPG suggests looking towards Olive Sprig in a bedroom for its sanctuary-like qualities that create a grounded space in which to rejuvenate as we re-enter society. For green kitchen ideas, they recommend pairing the shade with brass accents and wood tones on a kitchen island or lower kitchen cabinets.  Meanwhile, in the bathroom, PPG recommends accentuating its vivid hues by painting it alongside floor-to-ceiling emerald tiles to exhibit a luxe green haven that will stay in fashion throughout 2022 – and beyond.  It appears our favorite color power couple isn’t going anywhere fast, and we couldn’t be happier. 2022 is looking highly fashionable indeed.
